If you have recently bought a new home there are likely several reasons you want to make sure that it as clean and sanitized as possible. While most homes are generally spic and span when the keys are exchanged, here are a few steps you may want to take to get the peace of mind you need that your home is truly clean when you move in.

Wash the Windows Inside and Out

One of the best ways to instantly make an entire home look cleaner and feel fresher is to wash the windows. Wash them inside, wash them outside – make sure they are all clean. If the windows are modern then it is likely you can easily open them to wash the outside from inside your home. If not, hire a professional to get the exterior of your windows on higher levels.

Clean Out the Refrigerator – Including the Coils

Even if the refrigerator looks clean, once you have bought a home we recommend that you take the time to clean out the inside and outside of the refrigerator. This includes washing off the coils. The cooling effect in your fridge is due to the coils circulating air throughout. If dust has built up on the coils, it can make the fridge run less efficiently.

Wipe Down Ceiling Fans

You want to pay special attention to areas that are not typically seen but that can still soak up dust, debris, and bacteria. Ceiling fans are a great example. You want to keep the blades free from dust build-up. Make sure that you check the blades and change them so that they are facing the right way. If it is a modern fan, it is likely that it turns clockwise in winter to remove cooler air, while you must turn it back to counterclockwise to bring the cooling power in warm months.

Vacuum Out Your Dryer Vent

This is much easier than many people realize – and much more important too. If a dryer vent is allowed to gather too much lint and dust, it can be a serious fire hazard. When you move in, unplug the dryer so that it does not have power coming to it. Then either use an attachment on your vacuum to clean it out, or buy a special dryer-vent cleaning brush.

Invest in Deep Carpet Cleaning

Even if the carpet looks clean, even if they claim it is brand-new, it does not hurt to have it deep cleaned before you move in. This can get rid of allergens, dust, and other issues. A deep cleaning from professional carpet cleaners gets rid of the dust, debris, and food particles that can be caught deep in the carpet.
